some geekiness

23 09 2007

ah, i ended up creating an account at myanimelist.net. the site is pretty useful for keeping track of the stuff i’ve already watched or read, and it provides a nice perspective on how much of my life i’ve wasted staring at the tv or monitor, watching anime and reading manga. hehe.

my profile is http://myanimelist.net/profile/frank3manuel, and though i haven’t been able to log all the anime i’ve watched (i’ve dumped a great number of them), it seems pretty obvious that i’m now more into manga than anime.

lately, though, i’ve been devouring my manga too much. i can’t believe i’m actually running out of stuff to read.

and it seems the only anime i’ve bothering to watch right now (besides some movies and OVA) is lovely complex, because the manga is just too shoujo and the kansai dialect seems to add to the hilarity. the pacing of the anime is also perfect, and the choice of colors and the blending of the music and mood. i have no complaints whatsoever. (and it’s been a while since i felt that “kilig” over a show, hehehe)

but i am very disappointed in the bokurano anime. i read that the director changed many things from the manga, and he even wrote in his blog that fans of the original should not watch the anime, but after watching the anime version of chizuru honda’s story, i see that he understated his crime a little. it is not only the fans of the original who are being cheated, but also those who will have watched the anime without ever knowing the real story behind it. i suddenly feel the need to try to convince people to read the manga instead, but it seems not everyone is able to understand manga as easily as i do.

but the director did a great disservice to the memory of chizu by changing as much as he did.

unforgivable.

i also can’t believe i plowed through boogiepop doesn’t laugh as fast as i did. the reason i don’t seem to enjoy anime as much anymore is that it takes too much time. with manga, i can speed through the scenes at my own pace. the downside, however, is that i quickly run out of things to read. my manga list now has sixteen items i’m waiting for updates on, including of course bokurano, genshiken, welcome to the nhk, hayate no gotoku and others. i do hope i manage to finish some of these items, so i can finally leave them behind and go on with my life, but it seems it will take a while for a couple of these to finish (they’re still ongoing).

ah, for those who don’t already know, you can watch anime online via http://www.crunchyroll.com, which is a better anime source than youtube. they have a nice selection of series and movies, music videos and whatnot, and the videos load faster than on youtube and don’t need to be chopped up. they are also respectful of licenses, so you won’t find some titles in their database, but what they have is already enough for me (they have paprika). you might want to check it out.

that is all.
